ORCHIDS

I love orchids and I guess they love me too. I must have the perfect setting and exposure. I have been collecting them for about ten years now and still have my first. I have ones from Home Depot, Ikea, expensive florists, and many from a lady in Martha's Vineyard who sells them at the farmer's market. Honestly, the ones from this woman are the best and do the best. When they bloom they last forever, and I mean months, and then they may lie dormant for a few months and start allover again. I fertilize them about three times a year and water them once a week. There are a few ways to water, one is just the ice cube slow melt and the other is a soak from the bottom up in a sink of lukewarm water. I do the later way the most. After you soak the container then you drain it in the sink until no more water is coming out. Once a week is plenty for an orchid, you don't want to over water.
I have some pictures of my gems, from blossoms, to new buds and stems.

This is just the beginning for this orchid, there are many more to come

Isn't this a lovely color combination?

Hope you can see the growth in the stems in the next few pictures.

Nice sturdy stems to bear beautiful orchids, in weeks to come.

Not a particular good shot, but can you see the white orchid and the new stem.

Another orchid and more sturdy stems

This is one of my favorites, a little smaller orchid, I think the flowers are so sweet.

More growth, I will have to update when all the stems are in full bloom  ;  )

So what else have I been up too. I have been stocking my Etsy shop with more crochet hooks. Much to my delight and amazement they are selling and everyone loves them. I am so happy they are loved and that they bring people happiness and joy. What a nice feeling to know people are enjoying something you have made and then making something that will also bring joy to others.
Here are some of my latest.

What else have I been up to, Reading, walking/running, and getting organized for 2013, and purging my wardrobe and stuff. Boy, is it hard for me to part with things but I am slowly trying to thin out and give away. After it is all said done, it really feels good! I am taking a drawer at a time and then a closet at a time until I am finished. I believe it will make my life simpler  and have a freeing feeling once I am through. Plus I am hopeful that others will benefit with this effort also!!

How are all of you doing? I hope well. I am off to visit my mom this coming Monday, so I may not be able to keep up with all of you, BUT I will be thinking good thoughts! Thanks for popping in, oh, how I love your visits! Thanks for taking the time to comment and as always I'm thankful for all of you.

  1. Oh dear Robin.. I absolutely LOVE your orchids!! OK, now I am determined to try one myself. I will look for one. My Christmas cactus do very well - will an orchid do okay in a South facing garden window? I so wish I had the oomph to clean my drawers and closets.. I'm so bad about that. You're such a good girl.. enjoy your visit with Mom. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. Thank you Teresa, I try. And I hope to have a nice visit with my mom. Although I think it will be a tough one, she is living in the pass now and believes she is with her parents. I will have to be strong.
I have most of my orchids in a southwest window, so you should be fine.
    Hugs to you too, xoRobin❤

  3. Hi Robyn, I had changed some things in my blog and had lost your blog on my sidebar. I'm happy you are working on your closets. I just did mine right before Christmas... We get space for our new gift by giving some of the things we don't use as much anymore...in hopes that will be new for somebody else as you mentioned.
Love, love your orchids. 10 yrs ago when I turned 40 my sister had my husband by me one from my family...it gave me beautiful flowers for a very long time. When it died I was never able to make another one do so well... But. Really enjoyed seeing your flowers. Love the needles also. I'll check your etsy store.
I really hope you enjoy seeing your mom. Even if she is not completely there with you somewhere in her heart She knows you are here with her... Enjoy each moment you have . I'll be praying you feel strong and get though it peacefully.

    1. Hi Jane, Shoots!!!!! why didn't I think of that word, thank you! I do love my orchids, even if they are quite spidery when not in bloom, but I think that is why I love them, because they are unusual : )
Have a wonderful weekend, hope you get some sun, xoRobin

  7. Hello Robin, lovely to see your beautiful orchids. I have lots of flowers but my leaves look a bit shabby not nice and green and shiny like yours. Look forward to see them in full bloom. Love your crochet hooks too, can easily see why they are so popular. Blessings Pam

  12. Wow, you are so good at growing orchids.....these all look so healthy and beautiful! The flowers are quite amazing I think! Loved seeing your pretty spotty crochet hooks too. The ones you made for me are always enjoyed by me and my dearies. I will have to purchse a few more from you too as the crochet bug is catching on even more around here!
Wishing you a happy week, dear Robin!

  15. Those orchids look beautiful - I've discovered I'm more suited to outside plants though, that mind less if you forget to tend to them!
I'm also trying to reduce my wardrobe contents - not an easy task but like you, I'm hoping it will make the rest of my life easier :)
