Hi my Friends new and old,
So sorry to have been gone so long. Sometimes I don't know where the time goes.....and that is scary, I must say.
More traveling to visit my mom in Pennsylvania, I know I have been visiting her a lot you may say and it is true. She has gone from dementia to Alzheimer's, so I try to see her, as much as possible. She loves my visits, but now it seems she's not clear on remembering how long I've been there or that I was just there. So it is difficult. I know there are many of you also going through this and I sympathize with you and hope you can also get through these times.
So aside from traveling and working and normal everyday activities here we are with June almost over and July and vacations on there way. I say bring it ON!!!!
I have many projects in the works:
1. sock to finish
2. quilt to repair
3. quilt to finish
4. book to read (for enjoyment)
2nd SOCK is coming along
I made this quilt years ago. It is just a throw quilt for cosy times on the Vineyard. I normally use it in the evening while reading a summer book on vacation. It gets cool in the evenings, and/or I am chilly because I have gotten too much sun!
The quilt is made up of 9 batik squares of lighthouses. I hand sewed the whole quilt and tied it which is probably why it is in need of repair. Although, I do have to say its had lots of cuddle times and is about 12 years old.
The borders represent ocean, grass, flowers and sky.
Here are a few of the squares. Aren't they so pretty?
Can you see the tears and raw edges? Well, I have decided to make it a random ribbon repair and am so far having so much fun just letting it happen. I will continue to repair it as long as I can. Because I have sooooooo many different ribbons, may even throw in some buttons and patches too!
Next is a new quilt I am making, just because, no rhyme or reason, just because there are so many beautiful fabrics out there. I just need to get my hands busy with them! I'm sure you can all relate.
Don't you just love the colors?
Lots more to do.
Stacks and stacks
It will not be a large quilt, just crib size, but not for a baby. Probably another snuggly-cuddly quilt. Large quilts intimate me!
On the reading front, I just finished the 3rd and last of the series "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" by Stieg Larsson. It was really good, but you have to read all three of them to follow the story. 1st-The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 2nd-The Girl Who Played with Fire
Next, I'm thinking, "State of Wonder" by Ann Patchett. If anyone has read it, what did you think?
Well, so good to be back and blogging. More to come soon. Thanks so much for stopping in, I love your visits.
Be well and take care, xoRobin❤

Hi Robin,
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your Mom. My thoughts are with you.
I LOVE your new quilt!! The colors are my favorite, and I have to admit, I prefer making smaller quilts too. Your old quilt is lovely, and your repair methods are perfect :)
Happy Weekend!
Debbie
That looks like a well loved quilt!!! Love the sox! I aim to learn to knit socks this year!!! And the new quilt...awwwwww DREAMY!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely to see you back Robin. I am so sorry to hear about your dear Mum, this is such a terrible condition which strikes many families. You are such a devoted daughter and being so very supportive. Take care of yourself too. I love your quilts especially the boat one, it has obviously been so well loved. Enjoy the rest of the summer, ours has been such a washout this year and it's raining again today! Happy Sunday,
ReplyDeleteJane x
Hi Robin,
ReplyDeleteThe socks look lovely, I'm just starting a second sock too............the lighthouse quilt is beautiful and must hold so many special memories........fab repair job.
So sorry to hear about your mum's health problems, it must be very difficult for all of you,
take care, lily x
Hi Robin, I understand your visits to your mum are increasing and it is important that you get to visit while she still understands who you are.A terrible illness for those watching from the outside. Please look after yourself too because it does take its toll on the loved ones.
ReplyDeleteOn a different note, I love your lighthouse quilt, so pretty.
I'm sorry to hear about your Mum Robin. You're right to visit as often as you can.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilts both old and new.
The lighthouses are lovely. :)
I don't know where time goes to either, can you believe half the year has gone already.
Take care,
Vivienne x
First, welcome back you have been missed. I love the quilts and I am a bit jealous of quilters, you have so much patience and color sense.
ReplyDeleteLoved all the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books. My husband and I just watched the third movie in subtitles, they were excellent and follow the book much more than the American version.
I am currently reading State of wonder, you and I often have the same reading habits. I will have to say it is a slow book to get into, but towards the end it really picks up. Don't buy it to download, it is a beautiful book to hold which is what made me notice it in the first place. In a magazine I was reading today I read about some really great books for summer. Tigers in Red Weather, The Light Between Oceans, Gold and Where'd you go Bernadette. Check them out.
So sorry about your Mom, you know I feel your pain ion so many ways. This is just so hard seeing them going down hill and having to be the one taking care of them
Sending you a big, big hug.
Meredith
Hello lovely Robin,
ReplyDeleteI am sending you a big hug and a sweet reminder to take care of yourself as well as your mom. We all can understand if there's not that much time left for blogging, even it's so lovely to hear your news every now and then. Enjoy your holidays soon - July is almost here!
Happy greetings from Finland!
Yours,
Mia
Hello dear Robin, it's so good that you are seeing your Mom as often as possible. My mom and Dayle's dad both had that and didn't know anyone at the end. He never cared much for me and in the end I said during a visit, "I love you" and he said "I love you too" and that's when I knew he didn't know me. How sad is that? Love your socks and quilts! You know how I love lighthouses, so that one is so neat. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteDear Robin It's so sad that your lovely mom is suffering in that way, but lovely that you visit her as often as possible. I love your new quilt the fabrics are such gorgeous colours. I also love your cosy lighthouse quilt too, older quilts are so comfortable to keep on using, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your books, and well done on so much sock knitting too!
Hope you have a happy week :)

ReplyDeleteYour quilts are beautiful!
Loving the socks too.
God Bless.
